"I walk on concrete / I walk on sand / But I can't find / A safe place to stand"

Today I watched several videos, from the mainstream media and from "citizen journalists" of recent McCain/Palin rallies. Some of these rallies took place in my own Ohio. I would share them, but the thought makes me ill.

John McCain and Sarah Palin should be ashamed of themselves, for promoting this hate, this ignorance, this VIOLENCE against another presidential candidate. Against another human being.

People at the Republican rallies yell out that Obama is a terrorist, that he should be killed, that he's a Muslim (and so what if he were, but that's something else entirely), that we should "bomb Obama." McCain/Palin supporters have turned into an unruly, hateful mob, and I honestly fear that violence will break out. It is SICKENING, and I can't even put into words how low I feel about it. And McCain smirks. And Palin encourages it: Obama pals around with terrorists!

I have to remember that these people are in the minority. That, for now, Obama is up in the polls. That even people like my grandmother, who has not always been the most tolerant, defends him against her friends that say they won't for a black man. They won't vote for a black man.

Here's something else to yell about: Someone stole all the Obama signs off my street last night. And, of course, the McCain signs on Clifton are still there. (Thankfully there were no McCain signs on my street to begin with.)

And, I've been meaning to tell you about a column from the Sun Post. Here the initial article: http://www.cleveland.com/sunnews/joanne_dk/index.ssf?/base/columnist-0/1221685689217910.xml&coll=4

And the follow-up. (This will make you wanna throw things.): http://www.cleveland.com/sunnews/joanne_dk/index.ssf?/base/columnist-0/1222960123166100.xml&coll=4

Are you effing kidding me? Did someone report the thefts to the police? Because I think you all should, if only for the satisfaction of having it listed in the police blotter and seeing how crazy (some of) the McCain/Palin supporters are.

Palin frightens me, more than McCain or even Bush. I think she inspires a lot of hate in people, and her beliefs are dangerous. Of course, the men at work love her.

And I wrote that before I read the follow up, incidentally. Looks like the follow up proved me right!

Hey, Palin got booed at a hockey game in Philly tonight. Nice to see her get a taste of her own medicine.

And you need to write in your "normal" blog sometimes!

And this is old news, but did you see that Josh had a letter published in Scene or Free Times or whichever one?

I really like those articles from the Sun.

Yes, I saw Josh's letter! I haven't heard from him in awhile. Wonder what he's up to...

Normal blog? Which one is that? The 216 one? I have too many!!

I deleted that comment b/c I couldn't figure out how to edit it. It was the same as this comment except I left out a word and would've looked stupid.

Yeah, the 216 one. Or the Milo one? You do have too many!

My dad says he's moving to Chile if Palin is elected. What a random choice, right (not that he would actually move there, not that she would actually win)?

Haha--Chile. Did he pronounce it Chi-LAY?

Oh, and I think my mom did call the police. They're supposed to be watching our street b/c of all the drunks yet all the Obama signs are missing and we found a beer bottle in our yard (last year I found one on MY porch!). The Obama campaign called and they knew all about the thefts so the word must have gotten out.

You know, we can be optimistic like one of Jesse's aunts was when she had her Bush sign repeatedly stolen in '04. She told his mom, "Bush must be so popular because someone keeps taking my sign!"

She was serious. (Seriously without a clue.)

I don't remember - my mom told me it second hand.

I'm going to have nightmares about that weirdness.

Maybe the police stole the signs! (Not really.) But did you see that officer - in uniform - at the Palin rally, trying to stir things up about Obama - "Barack HUSSEIN Obama." Guess he's getting in trouble because he's not supposed to promote politics while in uniform.
